nOSCARS 2018 Awards Ceremony

12th of November 2018 nOSCARS Awards Ceremony

The spectacular Hurlingham Club was the backdrop for the NAZ Projects yearly Red -Carpet event, where they honour and celebrate organizations and individuals who have made a positive impact to the sexual health outcomes in BAME communities.

Established 27 years ago, The NAZ Project is one of the largest sexual health charities in London and it is dedicated to delivering culturally -specific sexual health to Black Asian Minority Ethnic Communities.

So how amazed and honoured were we at Aashna being among the short -listed nominees for the Wellbeing Award!!

Never ones to miss out on an opportunity to dress up and party, the Aashna team readily joined in the celebrations! And what a celebration it was. The atmosphere from the moment we walked into the beautiful reception hall, greeted with wine and canapés was filed with excitement, fun and real sense of camaraderie.

This informal joyous energy carried on throughout the whole award ceremony with our hilarious host Kat B and Chaired by Princess Tessy of Luxembourg. As Award winners took to the stage there was supportive cheering clapping and whole lot of whooping!!

The awards were interjected with comedy and music which the audience revelled in. We sang along with Joyful Noise Choir, as well as solo artists Vula and Phebe Edwards.

The frivolity of the evening did not detract from the serious message the event carried, with heartfelt speeches from award winners and from Honorary guest speakers including Nelson Mandela’s granddaughter Swati Mandela who spoke passionately and emotionally about the importance of sexual and mental health awareness in our communities.

Alas we did not get the chance to make our nOscars speech or bring home an award this year, but the Aashna team were not disappointed in the least, it was truly an honour be even recognised in the first year of our practice, and also to be part of such a gloriously positive and heartfelt event.

We cannot wait to be part of this event next year!
